Biere de Mars (March Beer)
Biere de Mars (which is French for "March Beer") is a little-known specialty brew that originated at small farmhouse breweries in the north of France. This type of ale was traditionally made in early winter when the fermenting cellars were cool and the new crop of barley and hops were ready for brewing. These cool conditions were considered ideal for brewing and as a result many old-time French brewers considered Biere de Mars to be their best tasting brew of the year.

Because of the cooler fermentation conditions and a long cold storage period, Biere de Mars developed a lager-like smoothness that made it especially drinkable. In modern times a few breweries have revived the tradition and some have a festival to launch their Biere de Mars and open what they considered to be the beginning of the beer drinking season.

Brewed entirely with French malt and cool-fermented with a special ale yeast for a unique and smooth flavor.

Southampton Biere de Mars has a subtle fruity/spicy aroma with flavor notes of pear, coriander and honey.

Southampton Imperial Porter

SOUTHAMPTON IMPERIAL PORTER is an assertive version of English Porter, which was called “Imperial” because this type of strong Porter was exported to the Imperial Courts of the Baltic countries (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) by the British in the 1700’s.  Imperial Porter is rich and strong with an alcohol content of 7.2% by volume. It is brewed with 7 different malts to give it a great complexity of flavor.

Flavor Description: There are flavor notes of chocolate, toffee and caramel as well as the warming effect of the higher alcohol content.

Abbot 12
ABBOT 12” is a complex dark ale inspired by those brewed by the few remaining Trappist breweries in Belgium (hence the name “Abbot”; “12” refers to the old Belgian system of measuring alcohol strength (“12” being the highest strength). There are a few versions of this style ale that are imported to the US that are generally referred to as “Quadruple” to differentiate them from the more typical "Triple" and "Double" brews made by Trappist Monks.        Flavor Description: A very complex brew that has notes of raisins, figs and caramel and a pronounced “dark rum” character. Deceptively smooth at 9.9% alcohol this strong ale makes a great after dinner sipping brew.
